Emeka Rollas, the former president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has apologised publicly to Regina Daniels, her mother Rita Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko and several Nollywood colleagues. The apology is about remarks he made in November 2025, during the couple’s marital dispute. Here is what the Emeka Rollas apology says, who it names and what it does and does not take back.

What we know

  • The apology (FACT). Rollas posted the statement on his Instagram page on Thursday, 8 October. Premium Times, TheCable, Punch, Pulse Nigeria and Legit.ng all reported and quoted it that day.
  • Who it names (FACT). He apologised to Rita Daniels and the Daniels family, to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and his family, and to Regina Daniels. He also apologised to the AGN Board of Trustees and to the actors Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko and Sanni Danji, as well as Agility, Nazareth Jesse, his former aides “and every colleague whose name I mentioned”.
  • What he regrets (FACT). “I regret the timing, the platform and the manner in which I handled it,” he wrote.
  • What he keeps (FACT). He also wrote: “I may still hold my convictions about some of the issues I raised then, but I take responsibility for my actions and my timing.”
  • Why now (REPORTED). Premium Times and TheCable report that he said a recent meeting with Rita Daniels, at which people were trying to make peace between them, led him to rethink.

What the Emeka Rollas apology is about

The apology goes back to 20 November 2025, the date Rollas gives in his statement. At that time, the marriage of Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko, the senator for Delta North, was the subject of a very public dispute. Rollas was AGN president during a tense period around the guild’s leadership.

He made a public statement that touched on the couple, on Rita Daniels and on fellow actors. Premium Times reports that he also criticised colleagues for staying silent, and challenged Rita Daniels over the AGN leadership contest. Many of the claims in those remarks were about the couple’s private life. We are not repeating them here, because the man who made them now says he should not have made them in that way.

In Thursday’s statement, he wrote that the people he named were “people I had related with, worked with and, in some cases, considered friends”. He added: “I made those statements at a time when a family was going through a deeply personal and difficult period. I should not have taken that path.”

What the apology does not do

It is worth being precise. Rollas apologises for how and when he spoke, not explicitly for what he said. He says he may still hold some of his views. He also makes clear that the people he named do not have to accept the apology. “Whether or not anyone chooses to accept my apology is entirely their decision,” he wrote, TheCable reports.

As of Friday morning, we had seen no public response from Regina Daniels, Rita Daniels, Ned Nwoko or the AGN board. Any response will be a significant part of this story.

Why it matters for Nollywood

The AGN is the main professional body for Nigerian screen actors, and its leaders often speak for the industry in public. A former president apologising by name to so many senior colleagues, including Jide Kosoko and Okey Bakassi, is unusual. It suggests the guild’s internal disputes from last year are not fully settled.

It also comes during a period of reflection in the industry. In recent weeks, veterans have argued in public about the industry’s history, as covered in our report on the Nollywood origins debate. Senior figures have also spoken openly about awards and recognition, as Ramsey Nouah did in our story on his AMVCA comments. The industry has also been mourning one of its own, which we covered in our report on CJay Nwokafor’s service of songs.

For readers new to the industry’s structures, our short history of Nollywood explains how the business grew, and why guilds and associations matter so much in it.

In his words

Rollas ended his statement with a direct message: “As I move forward, I choose peace, reconciliation, dignity and respect. I am human. I made a mistake. I have reflected. And today, I say sincerely: I am sorry.”

He said a good leader needs the courage to speak out, but also the humility to admit when an issue could have been handled differently.

What we do not know yet

We do not know whether any of the people he named have accepted the apology, or whether it was agreed with them beforehand. There is no new public statement from the AGN about last year’s dispute. We are not reporting on the current state of Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko’s marriage. That is their private matter, and it is not the subject of the apology.

What happens next

  • Watch for responses from the Daniels family, Senator Nwoko or the AGN board.
  • We will update this story if any of the colleagues he named responds in public.
  • If a formal reconciliation follows, we will report what is confirmed by those involved.
