Afrobeats chart tracker: every No. 1 on Billboard U.S. and UK charts

Last updated: 4 October 2026. Data runs to the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart dated 3 October 2026 and the Official Afrobeats Chart for the week beginning 27 September 2026.

This tracker lists every song that has reached No. 1 on the two main Afrobeats charts outside Africa: Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and the UK’s Official Afrobeats Chart. We compiled it by checking every weekly chart published by Billboard and the Official Charts Company since each chart launched. We will update it as new charts are published.

What we know

• FACT: 15 different songs have reached No. 1 on Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart since its first chart, dated 2 April 2022.
• FACT: 72 different songs have reached No. 1 on the UK’s Official Afrobeats Chart since the first chart in July 2020.
• FACT: Tyla’s “Water” has spent 64 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard chart in total, more than any other song in our count, and it is No. 1 on the chart dated 3 October 2026.
• FACT: Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” holds the longest unbroken run at No. 1 on the Billboard chart: 58 consecutive weeks, from 10 September 2022 to 14 October 2023.
• FACT: Burna Boy has the most different UK No. 1s (12 songs as lead or featured artist); Tyla has the most weeks at No. 1 in the UK (57).

How to read this tracker

• First week at No. 1 is the chart date when the song first reached the top. For Billboard this is the “chart dated” Saturday; for the UK it is the start date of the chart week as listed by the Official Charts Company.
• Weeks at No. 1 counts every week at the top, including returns after dropping down.
• Artists are shown as credited by each chart company at the time. Credits sometimes change, for example when an artist renames or a remix is added.
• Records and counts are our own tally from the official weekly charts. Billboard and the Official Charts Company may publish their own records, which take precedence.

Milestones

• First No. 1s: CKay’s “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” topped the first Billboard chart; NSG’s “Grandad” topped the first UK chart.
• Most weeks at No. 1 (Billboard): Tyla, “Water”, 64 weeks; then “Calm Down”, 59 weeks.
• Longest unbroken run (Billboard): “Calm Down”, 58 weeks, described by Billboard as a “record 58-week monopoly” when “Water” ended it in October 2023.
• Most Billboard No. 1s: Tyla has four (“Water”, “Push 2 Start”, “Chanel” and “Is It Love”), with 109 combined weeks at the top.
• Most UK No. 1s: Burna Boy (12 songs), then Wizkid (11), Tyla (8), and Asake and NSG (7 each).
• Longest UK runs: “Last Last” by Burna Boy and “Chanel” by Tyla each spent 13 weeks at No. 1. No UK No. 1 has matched the longest Billboard runs: the UK top spot has changed hands far more often.

UK Official Afrobeats Chart: every No. 1

Note: the Official Charts Company did not publish an Afrobeats chart for the week beginning 27 December 2020.

How we compiled it

We checked each weekly Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart from 2 April 2022 to 3 October 2026 (236 charts) and each weekly Official Afrobeats Chart from 26 July 2020 to the week beginning 27 September 2026 (322 charts) on the chart companies’ own websites, and recorded the No. 1. Counts combine every week a song spent at the top. If you spot an error, contact us through our contact page and we will correct it.
