AI tools are cheap to try and easy to forget about. A ChatGPT plan here, a Midjourney plan there, maybe Claude for writing or Gemini for your Google Drive, and suddenly a good part of your monthly budget is going to companies that bill in US dollars. This free AI cost calculator shows what that really comes to in your own currency.
How it works
- Prices are the official US-dollar list prices from each company's own pricing or help page, checked on 9 Oct 2026. Every row links to its source.
- We convert them at daily exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API (reference rates, not parallel-market rates). The date of the rates is shown under the results.
- Optional: add your bank's card FX markup (%) and any VAT or tax (%) you pay. Both start at 0 because they vary by bank and country.
- Cost per request = input tokens × input price + output tokens × output price, with prices in US dollars per million tokens from each vendor's official API pricing page (checked 9 Oct 2026).
- Token counts here are an approximation, not an official tokenizer: about 1 token for every 4 characters of English text, blended with a words-based estimate.
Frequently asked questions
How much do the main AI subscriptions cost?
On 9 Oct 2026 the official list prices were: ChatGPT Plus $20, Claude Pro $20 (or $17 a month yearly), Google AI Pro $19.99 (US price), SuperGrok $30 and Midjourney Basic $10 a month. ChatGPT Plus is about ₦26,620 at the exchange rate dated 9 Oct 2026.
Why is my bank charge higher than this?
Your bank or card may add its own exchange-rate markup or fees, and some countries add VAT or other taxes to digital services. The calculator has optional boxes for both so you can enter what your bank and local rules actually charge.
Where do the exchange rates come from?
From ExchangeRate-API's free open access data, refreshed once a day on our server. They are reference rates, not parallel-market rates. The date of the rates is shown under every result.
How often are prices checked?
AI prices change often. Every price shows the date we last checked it on the vendor's official page (currently 9 Oct 2026) and links to that page. If we can't verify a price, we don't show one.
Is the AI Cost Calculator free?
Yes, and it needs no sign-up. Everything runs in your browser. A Pro version with price-change alerts and team budget planning is coming; you can join the waitlist on this page.
It has three tools in one place:
- Subscriptions: tick the plans you pay for (ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI, Perplexity, Grok, Midjourney and Microsoft 365 Premium with Copilot) and see your monthly and yearly total in naira, cedis, Kenyan shillings, rand, pounds, euros, rupees or dollars.
- API cost: for developers and startups. Pick a model, enter your prompt and reply sizes and your daily requests, and see the cost per request, per day and per month, then compare the same usage across more than 30 models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI.
- Token counter: paste any text to get an approximate token count and what it would cost to send.
Where the numbers come from
Every price is the official US-dollar list price from the company’s own pricing or help page, and each one links to its source with the date we checked it (9 October 2026). If we couldn’t confirm a price on an official page, we say so and leave it out rather than guess. Currency conversion uses daily exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API, the same reference rates shown under every result. We don’t use parallel-market rates.
What you actually pay can be higher than the converted list price. Your bank may add its own exchange-rate markup, and some countries add VAT to digital services. Open Add bank FX markup or VAT and enter the figures from your own bank statement to see your real cost. Some vendors also show local or app-store prices in certain countries, so your checkout always has the final word.
