Check your beat’s tempo and key
Drop your instrumental or reference file into the finder below. It runs on your device, so unreleased beats stay private.
How it works
- Choose an audio file from your phone or computer (MP3, WAV, M4A or AAC work in every modern browser; FLAC and OGG work in most).
- Your browser decodes the audio and analyses it on your device. Nothing is uploaded to Centertainment or anyone else.
- Tempo comes from the rhythm: we track where new sounds start and look for the beat spacing that repeats most strongly.
- Key comes from the notes: we add up which of the 12 pitch classes sound most across the track and compare the result with published major and minor key profiles.
- You get the BPM, the key, its Camelot and Open Key codes, half-time and double-time values, the keys it mixes well with and a confidence level for each result.
Frequently asked questions
What BPM is Afrobeats?
Producer guides commonly put Afrobeats at about 95–115 BPM. Mixgraph, which analyses track catalogues, reports a median of 110 BPM across the 242 afrobeats tracks it measured. Treat these as guides, not rules.
Is Afrobeats the same as Afrobeat?
No. Afrobeat is the 1970s style pioneered by Fela Kuti with long, horn-driven grooves. Afrobeats is the umbrella name for modern West African pop. Their tempos overlap but they are different styles.
What is the difference between Afrobeats and amapiano tempo?
Amapiano usually sits in a tighter, slightly faster band of about 110–115 BPM, according to EDMProd. Afrobeats covers a wider range and often sits a little slower.
What key are Afrobeats songs in?
There is no standard key. Use the key finder above on your own beat or reference file to get its key and Camelot code.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened and analysed inside your browser on your own device. It is never sent to Centertainment or any other server, which makes it safe for unreleased beats.
Afrobeats tempo in practice
Tempo is only part of the feel. The same 105 BPM can sound laid-back or urgent depending on how busy the shakers and congas are and where the kick lands. Slower Afrobeats songs can drift below 100 BPM, and tracks that borrow from amapiano or afro-house often sit higher. That’s why we show ranges and their sources rather than one “correct” number.
Keep in mind that Afrobeats (modern West African pop) is different from Afrobeat, the 1970s style led by Fela Kuti. If you’re making a cross-over track, compare with the amapiano BPM guide, or plan a DJ blend on the Camelot wheel.
