Estimates from automatic analysis. Tempo can read at half or double speed, and key can be confused with its relative major or minor, so check the confidence and trust your ears. Please only analyse audio you have the right to use.

How it works

  • Choose an audio file from your phone or computer (MP3, WAV, M4A or AAC work in every modern browser; FLAC and OGG work in most).
  • Your browser decodes the audio and analyses it on your device. Nothing is uploaded to Centertainment or anyone else.
  • Tempo comes from the rhythm: we track where new sounds start and look for the beat spacing that repeats most strongly.
  • Key comes from the notes: we add up which of the 12 pitch classes sound most across the track and compare the result with published major and minor key profiles.
  • You get the BPM, the key, its Camelot and Open Key codes, half-time and double-time values, the keys it mixes well with and a confidence level for each result.

Frequently asked questions

What BPM is amapiano?

EDMProd says amapiano is usually written at 110–115 BPM. Mixgraph reports a median of 113 BPM across the 6,202 amapiano tracks it analysed.

Why is amapiano slower than house?

Amapiano grew out of South African house but sits below its usual 115–130 BPM. The slower pace gives the log drum and piano chords room to breathe.

Can the BPM finder read log drums?

Yes. Log drums are short, pitched hits, which helps both tempo and key detection. In our test with a synthesised 112 BPM log-drum loop in F♯ minor, Beat Lab returned 112 BPM and F♯ minor.

What is the difference between amapiano and afro-house tempo?

Afro-house usually runs faster, around 118–126 BPM according to Mixgraph's catalogue figures, with a steadier four-on-the-floor kick.

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and analysed inside your browser on your own device. It is never sent to Centertainment or any other server, which makes it safe for unreleased beats.

Why amapiano sits where it does

Amapiano is noticeably slower than most house music, which usually runs at about 115 to 130 BPM. The extra space lets the log drum glide and decay between kicks and gives the piano chords room to breathe. Push the tempo much higher and the groove starts to sound like afro-house; drop it much lower and it loses its bounce.
