The Camelot wheel is the cheat sheet DJs use to mix songs in key. Instead of remembering that A minor sits next to E minor and C major, you just remember that 8A goes with 9A, 7A and 8B. Tap any key below to light up its neighbours.

How it works
- Each key has a Camelot code: a number from 1 to 12 and a letter. A is minor, B is major.
- Tap any key on the wheel or in the table to see the keys that mix well with it.
- Moving one number up or down, or swapping A and B on the same number, keeps the mix in harmony.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Camelot wheel?
It is a chart DJs use for harmonic mixing. It places the 24 major and minor keys around a circle of fifths and gives each one a code from 1A to 12B, so you can pick keys that blend without learning music theory.
Which keys mix well together?
The same code, one number up or down with the same letter (for example 8A to 9A or 7A), and the same number with the other letter (8A to 8B, a minor key and its relative major).
What does A and B mean on the Camelot wheel?
A codes are minor keys and B codes are major keys. 8A is A minor and 8B is C major, which share the same notes.
What is the difference between Camelot and Open Key?
They are two labelling systems for the same circle. Open Key, used by some DJ software, numbers C major as 1d and A minor as 1m. Our table shows both.
How do I find the Camelot key of my song?
Run the file through our song key finder. It gives you the key, the Camelot code and the compatible keys straight away.
Camelot wheel explained
The wheel arranges the 24 major and minor keys around the circle of fifths. Each key gets a number from 1 to 12 and a letter: A for minor keys on the inner ring and B for major keys on the outer ring. Keys that share most of their notes sit next to each other, so moving one step keeps a transition sounding smooth.
- Same code (8A to 8A): the safest blend.
- One step up or down (8A to 9A or 7A): changes the mood gently. Many DJs move up a step to lift the energy.
- Switch letter (8A to 8B): moves between a minor key and its relative major, which use the same notes.
Camelot or Open Key?
Some DJ software labels keys with Open Key codes instead, where C major is 1d and A minor is 1m. The chart below lists both systems side by side, along with standard key names, so you can read any track’s tag.
