You’ve seen the stream count climb on Spotify for Artists. Now you want to know what it’s worth. This free Spotify royalties calculator turns your monthly streams into an estimated payout range in dollars or naira, by listener region, and lets you take off your distributor’s or label’s share to see your take-home figure.
The first thing to know is that Spotify doesn’t pay a fixed amount per stream. Roughly two-thirds of the money Spotify earns from music goes into royalty pools, calculated separately for each of its 180+ markets. Each month that money is shared out by “stream share”: if your track got 0.001% of streams in a market, it gets 0.001% of that market’s pool. Rights holders, meaning your distributor, label or you, are then paid from that pool.
An industry analysis of 2024 payouts put the worldwide average at about $3 per 1,000 streams ($0.003 per stream). Streams from listeners in the US, UK, Canada and Australia are worth more, which we estimate at roughly $3–$5.50 per 1,000, because subscriptions and ad rates are higher there. Streams from Nigeria and the rest of Africa are worth much less, around $0.50–$2 per 1,000 by our estimate, or about ₦670–₦2,700. The regional split is our own estimate, based on how Spotify’s per-market pools work.
One rule catches many independent artists out. Since April 2024, a track must reach at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months, plus a minimum number of unique listeners, before it earns any recording royalties. Below that, it earns nothing.
How to use it
- Enter your streams per month across your catalogue.
- Choose where most of your listeners live. Spotify for Artists → Audience shows your top countries.
- Enter the share your distributor or label keeps: 0% for many flat-fee distributors, often 15–20% for others, and more for label deals.
- Press Estimate my earnings and create a share card if you want to celebrate a milestone.
This covers recording royalties only. Songwriting (publishing) royalties are paid separately through collecting societies. All results are estimates, not guarantees. Your distributor’s statement is the real figure.
How it's calculated
- Spotify does not pay a fixed amount per stream. It splits royalty pools in each market by stream share, then pays rights holders through distributors and labels.
- An industry analysis of 2024 payouts found an average of about $3.00 per 1,000 streams worldwide. We spread that by listener region, from $3–$5.5 for US, UK, Canadian and Australian listeners to $0.5–$2 for Nigeria and the rest of Africa. The regional split is our own estimate.
- Tracks must reach at least 1,000 streams in the past 12 months (and a minimum number of unique listeners) before they earn any recording royalties.
- Enter the share your distributor or label keeps to see your take-home figure. Songwriting (publishing) royalties are separate and not included.
