The Jagun Jagun 2 trailer is out. Femi Adebayo shared a first look at Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors on Sunday night, 11 October, and reports say the sequel to his 2023 Yoruba epic will stream worldwide on Netflix from Friday 4 December 2026. Here is what the trailer gives away, what the first film was about, which cast members are actually confirmed, and what still needs official word.

What we know

  • The announcement (FACT). Adebayo posted the clip on X on Sunday 11 October with the words “You all asked for it, here it is, guys!!”, Green White Green (gwg.ng) reports. Nollywood Life reports he also shared it on Instagram.
  • The title (FACT). The sequel is called Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors.
  • The release date (REPORTED). Both outlets report a worldwide Netflix release on 4 December 2026. We have not yet seen a Netflix listing or press release confirming the date.
  • The trailer lines (FACT). Adebayo’s post includes the lines: “Even in his absence, his name remained a curse whispered behind closed doors. Some men are made by war. Others are the reason kingdoms learn to fear it.”
  • The cast (NOT CONFIRMED). Nollywood Life notes that the returning cast has not been confirmed in the announcement. We have not seen a cast list for the sequel.

What the Jagun Jagun 2 trailer suggests

The lines in the teaser point back to a feared warrior whose name still frightens people “even in his absence”. That fits the world of the first film, which was built around a warlord’s grip on power. But the announcement does not say who the lines describe, and we would be guessing if we named a character.

The subtitle, War of Warriors, suggests a larger conflict than the first film’s story of one young fighter. Again, that is a reading of the title, not something Adebayo or Netflix has explained.

A reminder of the first Jagun Jagun

Jagun Jagun (The Warrior) was released on Netflix on 10 August 2023. It was produced by Femi Adebayo through his company Euphoria360 Media and directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo (FACT).

The story follows Ogundiji, a warlord played by Femi Adebayo, who feels threatened by Gbotija, a young warrior played by Lateef Adedimeji who wants to avenge his father’s death. The cast also included Odunlade Adekola, Bukunmi Oluwasina, Ibrahim Yekini, Faithia Balogun, Bimbo Ademoye, Mr Macaroni and the veteran Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello) (FACT).

The film travelled well. Netflix’s weekly top 10 data, as summarised on Wikipedia, recorded 2.1 million views in its first three days and 3.7 million by 20 August 2023, enough to place it among the most-watched non-English films globally that period (REPORTED). Our explainer on how Netflix top 10 views work sets out what those numbers measure.

It also did well with juries. At the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards it won Best Indigenous Language Movie (West Africa) and Best Costume Design, and at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards it won three prizes, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Femi Adebayo (REPORTED). For how those awards are decided, see our AMVCA awards explainer.

Why the sequel matters for Nollywood

Yoruba-language epics have become one of Nollywood’s strongest exports on streaming. Jagun Jagun showed that a film in an indigenous language, with subtitles, could find viewers across many countries; within 48 hours of release it was reported to be trending in the UK and 17 other countries (REPORTED, Legit.ng via Wikipedia). A December date also puts the sequel in the busiest season for Nigerian entertainment, when families are at home and the cinema slate is crowded, and when many diaspora viewers are planning holiday watching. For subscribers abroad, a Netflix release means seeing it on the same day as audiences in Lagos, without waiting for a cinema run or a pirated copy.

It is also a big moment for Adebayo’s company. Last week he opened the Euphoria360 Hub in Lagos, a production centre and film academy, as we reported in our story on the Euphoria360 Hub. A Netflix sequel is exactly the kind of project such a facility is meant to support, though Adebayo has not said where Jagun Jagun 2 was made.

Nigerian talent is showing up across Netflix this autumn. Nollywood veteran Richard Mofe-Damijo has a guest role in the A Different World revival, as covered in our report on the A Different World revival.

What we do not know

We do not know the full cast, the directors, the running time or the plot. We have not seen confirmation that Lateef Adedimeji, Odunlade Adekola or other stars of the first film are back. We also do not know whether Netflix will release it at a set hour in West Africa; most Netflix films go live at the same moment worldwide, but that has not been confirmed here.

What happens next

  • Watch for an official Netflix announcement or listing with the 4 December date and cast.
  • A full trailer may follow the teaser closer to release.
  • Friday 4 December 2026: Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors is due on Netflix worldwide.
