Victor AD has apologised to Tiwa Savage in an open letter on X over a remix of his 2018 hit “Wetin We Gain” that she recorded a verse for, but which was never released. The Victor AD Tiwa Savage exchange ended warmly within hours, when she replied: “I appreciate this. God knows the reason for everything. All love.” Here is what he said, what he did not say, and why an apology about a shelved song has struck a chord with fans.

What we know

  • The letter (FACT). Victor AD, whose real name is Victor Adere, posted an open letter on X addressed to “Mama Jam Jam”, a popular nickname for Tiwa Savage. TheCable and Naija News published the full text.
  • Why he wrote it (FACT, his words). He wrote that he “should have done this a long time ago”, adding: “It’s never too late to take accountability for my actions.”
  • The remix (CLAIM, his account). He thanked her for “blessing my song ‘Wetin We Gain’ with a verse”, and said that “the remix never saw the light of day”. Tiwa Savage has not disputed this.
  • The apology (FACT). He said he could “go on and on” explaining why the remix did not happen, but that none of those reasons matters more than the effort and creativity she put in. “For that, I’m truly sorry about how things turned out,” he wrote.
  • Her reply (FACT). Tiwa Savage answered on X: “I appreciate this. God knows the reason for everything. All love.” Her reply is dated 10 October in TheCable’s embed of the post.
  • Not included (deliberately). Neither artist has said when the verse was recorded or why the remix was dropped, so we have not guessed.

What the Victor AD Tiwa Savage letter does and does not say

The letter is unusual because it is an apology without an accusation. Victor AD does not blame a label, a manager or Tiwa Savage’s team. He does not say the remix was blocked, and he does not give a reason at all. He takes the responsibility on himself and moves on to praise.

That matters for how the story should be read. Nothing in either message suggests there was ever a public row. What we can see is one artist saying sorry for wasted work, and the other accepting it.

The letter also does not promise that the remix will now come out. There is no release date, no snippet and no mention of the verse being reused. Anyone sharing claims that the song is “coming soon” is going beyond what either artist has said.

Why unreleased features are common

This part is general context, not a claim about what happened here. Fans tend to hear about a collaboration when it is released, but many recorded verses never reach the public. A remix can stall over label clearances, royalty splits or simply timing.

Royalty splits on features are more complicated than most listeners think. Our guide to how Spotify royalties work explains how streaming money is divided once a song is out. For an unreleased remix there is no income at all, so the artist who gave the verse loses time and gets nothing back.

Victor AD did not say the remix failed because of paperwork. He said her “genuine effort, love, and creativity” deserved better.

Two careers, one song

“Wetin We Gain” was Victor AD’s breakout hit in 2018. For a rising act at that point, a remix verse from Tiwa Savage would have been a major co-sign.

Tiwa Savage was already one of the most established women in Nigerian pop. In 2018 she won Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards, the first woman to take that prize, and in 2023 she performed at the coronation concert for King Charles III at Windsor Castle (FACT). Victor AD’s letter credits her with opening doors for Afrobeats, a phrase that covers the wider genre explained in our guide to Afrobeats, Afrobeat, Afropop and amapiano.

She has had a busy fortnight online. Her “pick a date” reply to Teni went viral last week, as we reported in our story on the Tiwa Savage and Teni boxing challenge. This exchange has a very different tone.

Why the reply mattered to fans

Public apologies can easily turn into long arguments in the comments. This one did not, largely because Tiwa Savage’s answer was so short and calm. “God knows the reason for everything” closes the matter without asking for more explanation. “All love” signals there is no grudge.

It also follows another high-profile apology in the industry this month, when Emeka Rollas apologised publicly, as covered in our report on the Emeka Rollas apology. The two cases are unrelated, but both show public figures choosing to say sorry directly on social media rather than through a spokesperson.

What we do not know

We do not know when Tiwa Savage recorded her verse, which label or team was involved, or why the remix was shelved. Neither has given an interview about the letter. We also do not know whether the verse still exists in a usable form.

What happens next

  • A release is possible but unannounced. If either artist confirms that the remix will come out, we will update this story.
  • Watch both artists’ X and Instagram accounts. That is where the letter and the reply appeared, and where any follow-up is most likely.
  • Tiwa Savage is also part of the wider “Chaos in the Ring” banter online. No fight has been confirmed.
