The Nigerian albums on 16 October, one by one
ZUKO! by Fireboy DML. Fireboy has released an album every year or two since his 2019 debut Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps, followed by Apollo (2020), Playboy (2022) and Adedamola (2024). His best-known international moment remains “Peru”, which became a global hit in 2021 and was remixed with Ed Sheeran. The rollout for ZUKO! has included the singles “Dopamine” and “Story” and, most recently, “IMALI” with South African producer JAZZWRLD and singer Thukuthela. “Imali” means “money” in isiZulu and isiXhosa, and the track borrows from South Africa’s three-step and Afro house sound rather than his usual mellow Afropop. That points to an album that may travel further from his comfort zone than his last two. The full guest list has not been confirmed.
Radio Gidi by Kizz Daniel. This would be Kizz Daniel’s first full-length album since Maverick in 2023. He released the four-track TZA in 2024. Its lead single “Owo Oluwa”, with Young Jonn, producer Krizbeatz and Wave Choir, is a song of thanks. HypeTribe reports that it is No. 1 on TurnTable’s Official Radio Songs chart this week and No. 8 on the Official Nigeria Top 100. The closing track, “Taba”, reunites him with Seyi Vibez and BNXN, his partners on “Gwagwalada”. In a reply to a fan quoted by HypeTribe, Kizz Daniel said he had stepped back this year after the death of his mother, and the “Owo Oluwa” video is dedicated to his late parents. Young Jonn’s run of UK success, including his Wembley booking, is covered in our Young Jonn OVO Arena Wembley story.
NOMADINHO: 4TH PRIME by Blaqbonez. The Chocolate City rapper is moving fast. The new album arrives roughly a year after No Excuses, which featured AJ Tracey, Olamide and Pa Salieu. His album Emeka Must Shine won Best Rap Album at the Headies, according to his label’s announcement. We explain the awards in The Headies explained. “Ikebe 3000” is his second recent single with Asake, after “Chanel”, which his label’s announcement says reached No. 5 on Billboard’s US Afrobeats Songs chart. tooXclusive reported on 5 October that “Ikebe 3000” had reached No. 1 on Apple Music’s Nigeria Top Songs chart. The two artists have known each other since their student days at Obafemi Awolowo University.
What the charts are saying before release day
Early chart signals are mixed, and they tell you different things. A radio No. 1 for “Owo Oluwa” shows that broadcasters have embraced Kizz Daniel’s comeback. A streaming No. 1 for “Ikebe 3000” on Apple Music Nigeria shows that Blaqbonez and Asake are connecting with the playlist audience. IMALI is aimed at a pan-African dance audience, so its impact may show up first outside Nigeria’s own charts.
All three albums will also be up against Seyi Vibez, whose album SWAGUU currently holds most of the top 10 on the Official Nigeria Top 100, according to HypeTribe. If you want to understand how TurnTable compiles its charts, read our TurnTable charts explainer.
Why three albums on one day matters
Friday is the global release day for music, because charts in the US, the UK and Nigeria all count weeks that start on a Friday. When three major albums share a Friday, they share the same first-week window. That can split the attention of playlist editors, radio and fans, but it also turns the day into an event for Nigerian music, with three projects to compare in the same week.
For listeners in the UK, US and the diaspora, all three albums are expected on the major streaming services worldwide. The first proper scoreboard will be the following week’s charts: TurnTable in Nigeria, the Official Afrobeats Chart in the UK and Billboard’s US Afrobeats charts. Our guide to Afrobeats, Afropop and amapiano is a useful primer if the South African influences on IMALI are new to you.
