What we know
- Phyna’s win: Phyna (real name Josephina Otabor) ended the scheduled four-round contest in the last round, Punch, The Guardian and Vanguard reported.
- A first for the series: Balmoral’s chief executive, Ezekiel Adamu, told reporters before the show that it would be the series’ first female celebrity bout. After the fight, the organisers’ announcement named Phyna the winner of “the first-ever female celebrity bout in the history of Chaos in the Ring”, Daily Post reported. Punch went further and called it Nigeria’s first female celebrity boxing bout.
- The prize: Phyna received a ceremonial cheque for ₦50 million and a car, according to The Guardian. Punch also reported the ₦50 million.
- Carter Efe’s win: Efe beat Speed Darlington by technical knockout and stayed unbeaten in the series. Punch reported that the fight was stopped after Darlington had stopped moving.
- Broadcast: the card was shown live on SuperSport and DAZN, with Bet9ja as sponsor.
Knockout or technical knockout?
Reports describe Phyna’s win in two ways, so here is the difference. Punch, The Guardian and Vanguard call it a knockout. Daily Post quoted the organisers’ announcement, which declared “a fourth-round technical knockout”.
In boxing, a knockout means a fighter cannot get up before the referee’s count ends. In a technical knockout, the referee (or a doctor or corner) stops the fight without a completed count. Either way the result is the same: Phyna won inside the distance, in the final round.
What Phyna said
Phyna, who won Season 7 of Big Brother Naija in 2022, posted on X shortly after the fight that the date had double meaning for her:
“October 2nd will forever be a special date in my life. Today marks the anniversary of the day I won BBN, and now, years later, I’m celebrating another historic victory becoming the first female boxer to step into this ring and win this fight.”
Phyna on X, 2 October 2026
She dedicated the win to “every woman who has ever been told she couldn’t” and thanked Balmoral Promotions and Bet9ja.
What Nkechi Blessing said
Speaking on a social media live session after the fight, Nkechi Blessing put the loss down to preparation, Vanguard reported:
“I’m not a boxer and I only train for two days.”

That is her own account; we have not seen a statement from her camp or the organisers on how long either fighter trained.
The build-up
The bouts followed a tense press conference on Tuesday 29 September. The Guardian reported that Speed Darlington kicked a birthday cake that had been presented to Carter Efe onto the floor, and that bouncers separated the two. Phyna and Nkechi Blessing also traded words there.
Both men came in with history in the series. Carter Efe beat singer Portable on 1 May 2026, with all three judges scoring it 30-27, Punch reported. Speed Darlington had earlier lost to Portable in 2025, when he did not come out for the second round, according to TheCable.
A note on the main-event scorecards
Ghana’s Freezy Macbones took the WBO African light heavyweight continental title from Nigeria’s Godday Appah after ten rounds. The scores published in the event reports were 95-93, 95-93 and 94-94, and the reports call it a unanimous decision.
Under standard boxing scoring, a result where two judges favour one fighter and the third has the fight level is usually called a majority decision. The published cards do not change who won, but readers comparing reports may notice the difference.
What happens next
- Phyna vs Etinosa? After her win, Phyna challenged actress Etinosa Idemudia, who was watching at ringside. Etinosa accepted on the spot, Punch and The Guardian reported. We found no confirmed date or announcement from Balmoral for that fight yet.
- Phyna’s plans: Punch reported that she said she wants to pursue professional boxing.
- Carter Efe’s call-out: Efe told reporters he wants an international opponent, and named two targets: the American YouTuber and rapper DDG, and Floyd Mayweather (The Guardian). None of these fights has been announced.
